The Altenstadt combined heat and power plant operates an advanced and highly efficient flue gas cleaning system. This allows operation of the power plant with exhaust gas values far below the statutory limit values. Special attention is given to particulate matter and acidic constituents such as chlorine and sulphur which are bonded with lime. The fumes which are usually well visible on cold days are pure water vapour created by the cooling system and they are completely harmless.
