The Altenstadt combined heat and power plant has its own on-site laboratory.

On the one hand, compliance of the cooling water with statutory limit values such as the COD value (chemical oxygen demand of the water), the pH value and the phosphate content is checked and, on the other, the continuous analysis of the process water guarantees the constant quality which is necessary for the water-steam cycle. Parameters such as silicic acid, total iron and electric conductivity are determined in the analysis.

Moreover, the fuel condition is checked continuously by analysing parameters such as water content, loss on ignition and ash content.

An external laboratory is employed at regular intervals to analyse the ashes and to determine the chemical composition of the biomass.
